WHAT IS PHYSIOTHERAPY?

Physiotherapists assess clients, treat, rehabilitate and educate in order to prevent future injuries and maintain or improve your current physical condition. Physiotherapists use in-depth evaluation techniques and a wide variety of treatment modalities to address muscular, neurological and skeletal conditions to help clients return to their highest functional level. Treatments are aimed at muscles, nerves, ligaments, fascia, tendons, joints and movement chains. I will assess each client to find the root cause of your discomfort and pain and together we will work together to reach your optimal functional level.

Each client is assessed thoroughly to determine where the pain, weakness or imbalance originates. I use a combination of hands-on techniques, such as massage, deep tissue work, electro-therapy, fascia release, dry needling, corrective techniques and education, muscle balance techniques, joint mobilisation and strengthening to assist in achieving our goals and restoring function. Physiotherapists are first-line practitioners and do not require a doctor's referral.

Physiotherapy is able to assist with many conditions such as:

  • Sports Injuries (ankle and foot sprains, tendinitis, ligament tears, Achilles tendon, runners knee, jumpers knee, ITB, meniscus injuries, patellar issues, shin splints, piriformis syndrome, bursitis hip, shoulder rotator cuff)
  • Ankle Injuries (sprains, ligament tears, Achilles tendinitis)
  • Knee (runners knee, patellar pain syndrome, jumpers knee, knee instability, ITB)
  • Hip (bursitis, piriformis syndrome)
  • Shoulder (Rotator cuff tears, impingement, instability, frozen shoulder)
  • Elbow (tennis and golfers elbow)
  • Wrist and Hand (carpal tunnel and sprains)
  • Neck pain and stiffness
  • Inflammation
  • Postural imbalances
  • Back pain (stiffness, spasm, disc herniations)
  • Orthopaedic conditions
  • Weakness
  • Headaches
  • Stress/Tension

ABOUT ME

I am the practice owner and Physiotherapist. I graduated from the University of Cape Town in 2000 and proceeded to work in London for 2 years, gaining a broad base of knowledge in all fields of physiotherapy, from elderly care, orthopaedic rehabilitation, paediatrics, neurological conditions, strokes, to musculoskeletal conditions. My passion and experience mostly lie in musculoskeletal conditions and sports injuries following my active participation in Provincial Netball and Athletics (track and field) on a Junior and Senior Level. My experience covers a wide variety of sports injuries, post-operative rehabilitation, postural imbalances, stress-related pain, neck and back pain, headaches and general inflexibility, pain and weakness.

It is my vision is to assess every client thoroughly to find the root cause of their problem, realising early on that the body functions as a functional unit, involving several joints, muscles and ligaments that could be influencing the other. I have completed many post-graduate courses such as dry needling, kinesiotaping, fascial release courses, shoulder, runner injuries, trigger point, McKenzie, muscle balancing and Pilates training. I also recently acquired a qualification as a Health Coach and Integrative Health Practitioner, which has given me new insight into how chronic pain manifests in the body due to internal physiological imbalances.
